About Us
First Presbyterian Church of New Castle, Indiana is a strong evangelical Presbyterian Church (USA) congregation of Whitewater Valley Presbytery in the Synod of Lincoln Trails.  We are committed to God's work of renewal in the power of the Holy Spirit for our community and the larger body of Christ in the world.

God's vision for our church, as it has been revealed to us, is to offer a warm, inviting sanctuary to all of God's children:

  • a place where we can all grow in our love relationship with God
  • a place where youth can be introduced to and witness the power and glory of our Lord
  • a place where the elderly and the infirm can be comforted and assured that we are all God's children whom God loves completely
  • a place where we are equipped and empowered in spreading the Good News that Jesus died for our sins and is alive today reaching out to the world around us
  • a place where all who enter seek to have the Holy Spirit fill their hearts

This vision is one that will make this body of Christ a shining beacon for the community, a beacon so bright that people are attracted and drawn to its warmth and love as they see God at work to fulfill His purposes.

Our Missional Journey

Corporate History

It was a cold January morning in 1844.  A missionary of the Presbyterian Church made a trip on horseback from Richmond, Indiana to New Castle.  His mission for this trip was clear.  He was called to start a Presbyterian Church in a rural community.

First Presbyterian Church in New Castle stands at the corner of Church and 12th streets.  The church still has a clear mission: one that calls its members to seek guidance from the Lord, that leads the church to nurture a growing faith in its members, that seeks to draw those who lack faith to allow their hearts to be opened, and that continues to provide a foundation on the belief that Jesus Christ is the Truth, the Light and the Way.

Testimonial

Our desire is to have a worship service that provides an atmosphere of confident, inspiring, joyous, and enthusiastic praise and worship.  We pray for a service that blends various music styles in such a way that we recognize our traditional heritage while transforming the lives of believers and effectively attracting seekers.

First Presbyterian Church, New Castle, Indiana is a confessing church in the renewal network of evangelicals in the Presbyterian Church (USA), committed to upholding the biblical and constitutional standards expressed through the historic and confessional Christian faith in the reformed tradition.  We are supportive of the ministries of Presbyterians For Renewal and other church renewal minded ministries and missions such as the Presbyterian Global Fellowship

The Elders on Session are continuing in the process of being challenged in the task of prayerfully discerning the Lord's leading, guidance, and direction for our ministry and mission in view of the PC(USA) General Assembly 2006's recent adoption of the report and [amended] recommendation(s) of its Theological Task Force on the Peace, Unity, and Purity of the church (PUP).
